Molière's classic comedy about the legendary Spanish lothario receives a fitfully successful revival from A Noise Within. The production is breezy and vernacular, though it often feels clumsy when dealing with the female characters. Elijah Alexander makes a physically impressive Don Juan and JD Cullum almost steals the play as his miserable, wisecracking servant.

Don Juan feels very new indeed in the hands of director/designer Michael Michetti & his sparkling cast. Elijah Alexander is a handsome bearded swashbuckling Don Juan. JD Cullum is very funny as the long-suffering servant Sganarelle. As Elvira, Libby West delivers yet another terrific performance—fiery, passionate, & soulful. Abby Craden once again proves her comic talents as Charlotte, as does Kyle Nudo as Pierrot. Apollo Dukakis has much fun with the role of Mr. Dimanche. Best of all are Stephen Rockwell & Dale Sandlin as speech-defective brothers, getting laughs with but a single word or a single gesture. As always in a Michael Michetti show, imagination & innovation are its hallmarks. In this fast & funny Don Juan, he does justice to the great Molière & then some. Don’t think classic=dull. Not for a second in this terrific production. Read my full review at www.StageSceneLA.com.

This is an outstanding production of the Moliere play. The direction and design were excellent and the performances, particularly those of Elijah Alexander as Don Juan and JD Cullum as Sganarelle, were simply remarkable. An overall outstanding night of theater.

I would like to highly recommend “Don Juan” play at the Noise Within in Glendale. The theme of the play this time is not really Don Juan the womanizer, but actually the hypocrisy of the society. There is no question that Don Juan is a bad guy, but what about all the others who talk in the name of “Liberty and Freedom” and are actually at least as bad as him? Does it ring a bell??? The acting was superb. I must say I am never disappointed in this theater.
