I've had the good fortune to sample most of the premier chef owned restaurants in Southern California. This is by far one of the best. Ortolan offers a diverse menu with subtle complexity in near-perfect portions. The duck with cherries was fantastic as was the melting chocolate cake (with a perfect espresso). The fois gras terrine would prevail anywhere in the world. Good decor and atmosphere and service, though the latter needs some refinement.

it's refreshing to find a classy and creative restaurant in the neighborhood- friendly and warm, and well worth the price. Christophe Eme's exciting menu, coupled with his sense of humor and serious attention to what makes modern French cuisine tres chic, promises a romantic evening, one to stimulate all the senses- from palate to pleasure.

Pretentious and self-absorbed. Possibly the stingiest portions in LA for the ransom you pay. Add the $25 corkage fee and you begin to long for the Olive Garden. The room was so dark that EVERYONE had to be given little special flashlights to squint through a hard to read menu. Lamb should have been spectacular for the price, yet is was average. Give them a 10 for presentation, 10 for atmosphere and a 3 for experience. Personally the bar was the best experience. $450 for 4 people.

The food is exquisite, the ambiance luxurious but still fun, and the service refreshingly friendly for an haute cuisine restaurant. Ortolan has spoiled me.

Just Go ! This restaurant has the best service in LA right now and the food is outstanding. The ambience is relaxing with dim lighting and very comfortable seating - this is not an experience to be rushed and you will not be. Enjoy.

Outstanding and innovative food. Ruined our dining experience in Manhattan since this restaurant has us spoiled with their innovative food, exquisite service, and affordable wine list. The ambience is sophisticated, comfortable and unique. One of the top top dining places in L.A.

What did I miss? I have read these reviews as well as Virbila's and I can't reconcile my experience with these. The food was okay --actually, quite salty. The sommelier was condescending and chilled Pousilly-Montrachet when I asked that it not be. The front room, is quite noisy and not at all comfortable. For this amount of money, I expect better.

What an interesting new spot here in LA. The food is outstanding with a wine list to match. The room, or should I say rooms, each have their own distinct vibe and I think a meal in each one would be an entirely different experience, all of them good. The service was quite good and I look forward to my next meal there...

What an amazing space. I have been all over the world and have only seen a few spaces that compare to this. The design stunning. Food is excellent. My only complaint is why not in New York yet. Brian Conski
