Overpriced, but very good.

Get to know Peter, the head waiter. He is a sushi fanatic, and he will take care of you - I have never been disappointed by something he recommended. The quality of the fish is as high as any restaurant around. The non-sushi dishes are pretty good, but if you go to Kanpai and don't eat the sushi, you're wasting your time. This is not family-friendly Japanese food, but quality sushi for the purists out there. I highly recommend it, but make sure you have plenty of time to wait for the bill.

I guess this restaurant is doing very well. When I called and requested they fax a menu so we could place an order to go, they could not be bothered. I have never had this happen before. Most places are very accomodating. I will be crossing this Kanpai off my list.

I love KanPai. Peter is great and we always get something different. We never look at the menu and the servers bring us dishes.

The sushi is really fresh. The rolls are a little unpredictable: A spicy tuna tempura roll had cucumber, carrot, avocado and an enormous asparagus spear with only trace amounts of spicy tuna. Service is better at the sushi bar than at the tables. Like the reader below, it took centuries to get the bill, pay and leave.

The sushi is good. There are other places much better. The price is way too high for what you get. The staff is okay.

We've have been to this small Japanese restaurant 4 times and the food has always been fresh and delicious. Service is good and prices are reasonable. Sushi bar as well as table service. Nice touch with television screens buit-in the walls, music a little loud and can get noisy.

I had heard a lot about this place from others in the neighborhood. It's one of the only options near LMU for sushi, but frankly I was disappointed. Despite not being crowded, we had very poor service on our first outing there. A second order of sushi never made it to the chef, and it took forever to pay and finally get out of there. The sushi itself okay, but a little too pricy.
