The fans of this Valley institution, which moved to the old Matterhorn Chef space this summer, are evangelistic. Certainly the pizza is unusual. First, the shape: Everything, except the small pies, is rectangular. The crust is lighter than most. And you could even call this pizza historic. Opened in 1945, Barone's claims it's the first restaurant to serve pizza in SoCal.

Jillie of the Valley Van Nuys, CAWe didn't have a reservation. The hostess said the wait was "not long." She was true to her word. It wasn't but 15 minutes, even though there was a packed crowd in the small lobby. . The menu is wonderful. Our party of three ordered lasagne, caprese, shrimp scampi and pizza. The service was wonderful, the entertainment lovely and the food was superb. I DO miss The Matterhorn Chef, but Barone's is the perfect replacement. Put this one at the top of your list.
