Gardens of Taxco
Hours: Mon.-Thu., 4:30-11 p.m.; Fri.-Sun., 4:30 p.m.-midnight. Readers' rating: Reader reviews: Write a review | Read other reviews If they seem to forget your menu when you walk in this dimly lit "authentic" Mexican hideaway, it's not a sign of bad service. Like a good story, the servers of Taxco rely on an oral tradition of sing-songing your entrée options. Diners can choose from several main dishes (beef, chicken, seafood or vegetarian), and then the feast begins, delivered in several rounds. Meatball soup, cheesy quesadillas, saucy enchiladas and whatever else the chef's whipping up on special. Chase it down with some sangria and you'll be ready to exit stage left and party on at the nearby West Hollywood strip.
The deal-maker? It's all less than $20 a person!

Francis Guilardi Los Angeles, CAPlease do not eat here. This is a tourist trap. That is all. While I'm fine with prefixed menus (there is no menu, but it is prefixed), I'm not fine with American food being "sold" as Mexican food. The enchiladas were covered in Velveeta. The quesadillas were filled with rubbery cheese. The chicken mole had no flavor. Their shrimp is just overcooked shrimp covered in their salsa. They do not serve tequila. In a Mexican restaurant, that is almost heretical. March 11, 2006
Skip Sherman Oaks, CAFirst visit: 1979. Hadn't been in 2 years, so stopped by this past week with friends. Mole is great. Fish was HUGE chunk of salmon, beautifully prepared with their house cilantro sauce, three of us had it, were raving to the others. Those wine margaritas, killer and tasty. Can't wait to go back again, but must starve self all day: chips, marinated veges, two appetizers, soup, main, dessert, sherry, pre fixe! PS Ask about chicken dishes so you can hear how the chicken was born in the sauce! Write a review | Read more reviews Venue Details
