Visitors to Los Angeles note the wistful glint in the eye of a native at the mention of El Cholo. In business on Western Avenue for over 80 years, the Los Angeles restaurant now boasts a twin in its spacious Santa Monica sister location. Both restaurants are immensely popular and tend to get crowded, but the food and extensive menu make the wait worthwhile -- as do the generally friendly and competent servers. Try the juicy carne asada, the famous green corn tamales or the mouth-watering crabmeat enchilada. You might just be moved to buy a T-shirt.
