Downtown Alhambra is far less happening on weekend nights than nearby Old Town Pasadena. But surprisingly, iBrowse Coffee has found its following in this unlikely locale. Ain't nowhere else to go, so the place has an all-things-to-all-people sort of feel. This means Dungeons-and-Dragons high schoolers mingling with collegiate Internet heads and drama types in black listening to the jazz band with people old enough to be their parents. Anybody could hang here comfortably, pretty much.

The place has a sort of unfinished, warehousey look and its deep, narrow shape lends itself to the place's main functions. The front section houses a newsstand full of mags and a stage for ska/punk/jazz bands and open-mic poetry, while the back portion is reserved for six computers hooked up to the Net. Alternative pop music choices and colorful art exhibits round out the scene.
