One of L.A.'s most intense power-meal spots is also one of its prettiest. The utterly charming patio is just one of the many design elements created by co-owner/designer Lynn von Kersting. Roses bloom everywhere, the chintz upholstery is lovely, and the plates are hand-painted. From the kitchen come large portions of California-ized Americana -- Caesar salad, crabcakes, savory meatloaf, succulent Cajun prime rib, black-pepper shrimp, Louisiana soft-shell crab, and even a bang-up burger. Co-owner Richard Irving started out as a petissier and his desserts are divine, from the chocolate-chip cookies to the tarte Tatin. The only problem here is the attitude.

Power lunches? It's all tourists now, looking for any celebrity they can tell their friends about. The owners treat their employees like slaves and couldn't care less about their customers. The prices are so high because they can get away with it. DO NOT give them your money and get ready for a book written by those of us who have been through the abuse and think it's time people know the real truth about The Ivy.
