Best hambuger ever! Does anyone know if they ship their Chili?

The year was 1983. To complete a night of college partying, a trip to the original Tommy's was in order, as a cure for the munchies. To this day I remember the corner of Rampart and Beverly. I was told not to watch how the burger was made but I did so anyway. What I ordered was a double chili cheese and a coke, taken out of one large refer. I will never forget it!!

I've eaten at Tommy's since a fateful, late-nite college dorm 'munchie run' on Mar 23, 1973. From that day forward, (some 33 yrs) I've eaten at Tommy's every chance I get during my travels. I just ate at the Barstow and Chino one yesterday, on my way home to SD, (along with 4 double-cheeses and 1/2 gallon of chili 'to go'). I hear San Diego is getting it's own Tommy's next week. No more 103 mile trips to the Huntington Beach one for a good burger!!

If you like your food stuccoed with a thick layer of chili and oozing with cheese, this place is for you. I eat here (or at the one in Eagle Rock) only a few times a year because that's all my arteries will tolerate. I have never been to the inside, sit-down locations as standing and eating outside is part of the experience.

This is a wonderful LA orignal and every chili burger wishes it could be a Tommy Burger. Standing and eating at a shelf in a little oasis of the Rampart area with the LAPD station around the corner can't be beat. I love the old auto repair building with the shack in the corner of the lot. There is no other place with history like this. Don't J walk across Rampart you WILL get a ticket. Tommy we miss you but we still enjoy your burgers!

Tommy's, at Beverly and Ramprt, with their 30-cent chiliburgers and 35-cent chilicheeseburgers, was our afternoon hangout on our way home from Belmont High in the late 50's. Whenever I am in LA, I still make a stop to enjoy their unique burger and remember my youth in the old neighborhood. Highly recommend it for a good, down-to-earth but not too healthy eating.
