This friendly offshoot of La Serenata de Garibaldi serves the same terrific fresh mahi mahi tacos, gorditas bursting with shrimp and quesadillas stuffed with mushrooms, poblano peppers and cheese. Fresh tortillas are wrapped around shredded beef with a dash of salsa, or are served as a side to any of the stellar Mexican seafood dishes.

You can eat for cheap here, but for $19.95 you can get juicy giant Mexican shrimp with luscious mojo de ajo sauce -- one of the best shrimp dishes in town. Breakfast is served on weekends with south of the border choices as well as Belgian waffles. They don't take reservations but, everyone waits -- it's worth it.

A few minor points before the food: they do accept reservations and be prepared for noise and hard wooden chairs. That being said, starting with the tortilla soup which was a puree, as it should be, loaded with chicken and the necessary goodies. Next time, I'll order a bowl. The tongue was excellent with the sauce a tad spicey. The chicken mole was as dry as jerky and tastless of itself. The sauce was the only thing that barely saved the dish. For 50 bucks..there are better experiences.

just had another poor experience at la serenata. usually the only problem is the slow service and the occasional missing entree. this time they put meat in our vegetarian entree and did not apologize or remove it from the bill. be careful eating here as they obviously take little care with their food preparation.
