Housed in the architecturally distinctive California Plaza building, the 116-seat eatery features both indoor and outdoor dining and offers counter, table and take-out service. Opened in 1994, Joachim and Christine Splichal's cafe is situated adjacent to the MOCA's entrance lobby and features a variety of appetizers, soups, sandwiches, salads and desserts.

Online reviews and Patinette Cafe's website led me to believe that dining there would be something special. Trust me, it's not! Even the name is misleading. It's more of a snack bar than a true "cafe". It's a tiny space that's very reminiscent of the snack bars you can find in office building lobbies almost anywhere. Baskets of cookies, potato chip bags, candy bars, and pre-made sandwiches. I would recommend crossing the street and dining at Koo Koo Roo instead.
