This tiny establishment on Glendale's auto row, sporting red tablecloths and Peruvian folk art on white stucco walls, is a neighborhood gem worth discovering (even if you do not happen to live in Glendale). When you've had enough Italian trattorias and Chinese takeout, you may find that Mamita's is a good introduction to one of the New World's most fascinating cuisines.

The item that you should order here is the papas a la huancaina, a signature Peruvian dish made with boiled potatoes topped with a creamy chili-inflected cheese sauce. Although there are many minor variations of this simple dish, Mamita's offers one of the best renditions around. You could make a meal of this specialty alone. However, the citrus-marinated shrimp, squid and octopus, fried fish in teriyaki sauce (reflecting a substantial Japanese presence in Peru), fried chicken, shrimp and peanuts in hot red sauce, and breaded steak are all worthy complements to the prized dish of spuds.

Just like every person that has made a comment on this restaurant. I too feel a lack of customer service on behave of the waitresses the wait is long specially on the weekends. Food is great enough to outcome the negatives but i hate that the owner/ management has let things come this far.. this business will grow if this issue will be taken care of. If i was in charge I would turn things around...

After hearing rave reviews about this restaurant from family members, I finally had to check it out. It's a simple restaurant. Nothing fancy. I was blown away by the wonderful food. Their fried seafood was AMAZING. It's a huge platter piled with fried (fish, squid etc..) and wedges of lemon. For an entree I had the tomato beef dish with which I could not be more pleased. It was so flavorful and delicious. Service was decent. We didn't have any problems. Definitely will go back!

This place has some of the best Peruvian food around...it comes at a cost. Service comes from the hands of moody ladies that don't care (or know) much about good restaurant service. Having said this, I still frequent this place regardless of the slow and incompetent servers. Don't show up here without plenty of chat in you to kill the time.
