One of L.A.'s most intense power-meal spots is also one of its prettiest. The utterly charming patio is just one of the many design elements created by co-owner/designer Lynn von Kersting. Roses bloom everywhere, the chintz upholstery is lovely, and the plates are hand-painted. From the kitchen come large portions of California-ized Americana -- Caesar salad, crabcakes, savory meatloaf, succulent Cajun prime rib, black-pepper shrimp, Louisiana soft-shell crab, and even a bang-up burger. Co-owner Richard Irving started out as a petissier and his desserts are divine, from the chocolate-chip cookies to the tarte Tatin. The only problem here is the attitude.
