Father's Office
1018 Montana Ave.
Santa Monica, CA
310-393-2337

If this really were your father's office, he'd never come home.

Popular Drinks: More than 30 beers on tap from all over the world; wine-by-the-glass menu with more than 20 choice selections from France, Spain and Australia.

Unique Drinks: Excellent Belgian ale, 15%-alcohol beer, and funky pale ales; premium beers served in specialty glasses.

Food: Get a burger or tapas -- the French fries are legendary.

Seating: Tables and bar stools.

Ambience: Small and cozy, but a din of voices when it gets crowded. Jeans, flip-flops, Hawaiian shorts and baseball caps are welcome.

Extras/Notes: Packed by 6 p.m. with locals downing burgers and pints. Card and board games -- notably Trivial Pursuit -- on hand to play. Opened in 1955 by an aging volleyball player nicknamed "Dad." No longer as divey, it has been transformed into a hip tavern by new owner Sang Yoon, who added wood paneling and Mexican tiles, as well as more beer varieties, wine and tapas (from Michael's in Santa Monica). Sorry, no dogs or youngsters under 21 allowed. Suggestions written on chalkboard above the bar read: "For Hop Lovers," "Devils in Disguise," "New Arrivals" and "Sublime New Wine."

Parking: Metered street.
