Twohey's Family Restaurant
1224 N. Atlantic Blvd.
Alhambra, CA
626-284-7387

"The Home of Little Stink-O." Since 1943.

Popular food: Huge menu with classic Americana grub--burgers, sandwiches, pasta, soups, and breakfast served all day.

Unique food: Old-fashioned soda fountain and desserts, such as the Eruption ("hold on and dig it out"); Rose Bowl ("granddaddy of them all") with five scoops of ice cream; and Waffle Works (baked apples, vanilla ice cream, hot caramel, roasted pecans).

Drinks: Lingle Bros. coffee ("purveyors of the finest coffee in LA since 1920"), soft drinks; beers, wine.

Seating: Plenty of booths, tables, and a long counter for solo diners.

Ambience: Wholesome place with families, teenagers, couples; mural on wall depicts Santa Anita race track, Pacific Electric trolley car, Rose Bowl, and a Brownie and Cub Scout on bicycles.

Extras/Notes: Jack Twohey (pronounced 2-EE) trademarked the famous Stinko Burger after overhearing a woman exclaim "Oh stinko!" when a gentleman next to her ordered a burger with onions and pickles. Opened 1943 as a soda fountain in Pasadena. Moved to present location in 1950s and became a drive-in with carhop service. Present building erected in 1977-built on angles so many window booths are private (seperated by floor to ceiling walls).

Parking: Adjacent free lot.
