Tengu - Westwood
10853 Lindbrook Drive
Westwood, CA
310-209-0071
Owned by Alan Nathan, the former marketing director of the hip Hollywood club, Garden of Eden, Tengu attracts a crowd of the beautiful and trendy as well as the dressed-down college crowd. Don't worry, even if you're not wearing a tight black shirt they will still be nice to you.
Here, dim lights, bamboo and dark wood set the clubby, Hollywood tone. But don't let all the affect fool you, efforts at quality dining are at the heart of this new high-end sushi venture.
Splurge on decadent arrays of sashimi, or let Executive Chef Masa "tempt you from the path to Heaven" with a specially prepared selection ($60) or simply order sushi à la carte. Hot entrées range from Spaghettini Alla Japonaise ($11.50) to Tengu Tuna Steak ($18) and there's Tempura Ice Cream for dessert ($6).
To drink, try the flavor-infused sake iced and served in small martini glasses. Get a glass of sake ($8) or a carafe for the table ($18-$58). The same goes for an ample list of specialty cocktails, and an impressive array of both red and white wines. Better watch the clock though, all alcohol is confiscated at 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, midnight on weekends.
