Legoland California

This literal land of Lego toys is the first of its kind in the U.S. The 128-acre theme park is geared for children ages 2-12 and their families with more than 50 rides and attractions clustered around a 1.73-acre man-made lake.

Attractions: The 128-acre park features 40 hands-on attractions and a variety of rides. There are seven distinctive play areas: Imagination Zone, Castle Hill, Fun Town, Village Green, Miniland, The Ridge and Lego Explorations.

Facilities: Some of the unique facilities at the park for families include a family care center in Fun Town, featuring a place for diapering, warming bottles and food and nursing. There are larger family restrooms to better keep an eye on youngsters. Kid-size toilets and sinks are featured. Even some of the men's rooms have changing tables for babies!

There's a restaurant in each area featuring a kids' menu. Most of the attractions allow children as young as 3 to ride solo.

Getting there: Exit Interstate 5 at Cannon Road in Carlsbad. Go east and follow signs to Lego Drive.
