If your understanding of ceramics is limited to what you learned in your high school pottery class, then this gallery will prove a real eye-opener. What you'll discover is that ceramic-making isn't just a traditional and functional craft, it's a lively, vibrant and diverse discipline of fine art.

Frank Lloyd, who obviously cares deeply about his niche, represents two dozen preeminent American artists. Most are Californians, and until recently, they ranged in age from 25 to 105 years old. The centenarian, Beatrice Wood, died in 1998. She spent years producing charming, clunky, luster-glazed pieces. Other notables include Adrian Saxe's tongue-in-cheek stuff; Roseline Delisle's sleek black-and-white postmodern pots; and John Mason's twisting, towering sculptures that look like anything but clay.

Overhead light, glass display cases and nice-looking shelving makes for a creative presentation.
