Dorothy Chandler Pavilion
135 N. Grand Ave.
L.A., CA
213-972-7211

The very grand Dorothy Chandler Pavilion -- with its 3,197 seats spread over four elegant tiers, chandeliers, wide curving stairways and rich decor -- was the first of the three facilities at the Los Angeles Music Center to be built. Construction finished in December 1964, and the Chandler opened with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, for which it was home until the completion of the new Walt Disney Concert Hall across the street. The Los Angeles Master Chorale performed there as well, but also made the move to Disney Hall in the 2003.

Now the building is primarily home to the Los Angeles Opera with the addition of the Music Center's dance and speaker series.

The Los Angeles Opera, a resident company since 1986, continues to expand its season to fill some of the nights left vacant by the Phil and the Chorale. Since the 2003-04 season, the Music Center hosts a dance series in the Chandler.
