WENT TO THE MOTHER DAY JAZZ BRUNCH LAST YEAR. ONE OF THE BEST. FOOD AND SERVICE WAS EXCELENT!!!

My wife & I recently went to hear Melora Hardin. We had dinner beforehand, reasonably priced, very good service, and excellent food (portions on the small/moderate side-but SO tasty and gourmet presentation). The show was classic - entertaining, sexy & the band was kickin'!! The venue itself is cozy, and almost impossible to get a bad seat. If you plan on eating dinner I would advise arriving 45' before show in order to place order, etc.

Cheers to Catalina's for bringing the best in live jazz to LA. Jeers to that criminal sound system! Kenny Burrell's guitar (1/12/08, 2nd set) should not have to compete with a disturbingly loud hiss. In fact, any given quiet moment was wrecked by inferior amplification. The mic’ing of the piano was equally atrocious; Tom Ranier’s otherwise gorgeous work sounded like it was being pumped out of a glorified AM radio – flat, lacking all warmth and resonance. Catalina’s, you must do better.

Have gone several times. Each time it was great. For a club the food was fine. I went for the music!

Overall, the atmosphere and environment of the club is great. Do NOT go there with the intent to eat. Other parties went in with their own wine and did not really eat. Simply, the service was dissapointing. Reservations took several attempts along with confirmations and they still got it wrong. The bill was paid in a combination of credit card and cash. The cash amount was separately verified by other members of my party but after handing in the bill, some of the cash dissapeared.
