CLUB BUZZ
Manhattan skyline
Celebs are flocking to the easy chic of Manhattan Beach, and Scott Weiland covers himself.
April 6, 2006
Cool breezes, drinks, scenes
I'll take Manhattan. The lovely seaside town of Manhattan Beach is offering Hollywood-style glamour with all that fresh ocean air. The Shade Hotel's
Zinc Lounge is a
Kate Hudson fave, while
Liz Phair digs the scene at
Café Pierre. Locals down the Pink Minty martini at
Avenue, a sweet spot owned by
Christian Shaffer. Shaffer is splashing into winemaking with business partner
John Langley (the "Cops" creator), and the duo debuts its first vino this month, a Sauvignon Blanc under the Magpie label.... Our favorite northern beach town, Oxnard, is moving on up. The salsa nightclub
Ruby's opens this month in downtown Oxnard, and the 8,000-square-foot flamenco club
Casa Escobar is set to open this summer. There's also a slew of new cafés popping up.... And while we're feeling beachy, Hermosa Beach's
Lighthouse Cafe marks the release of local fave
Profusion's latest punk opus with a bash tonight.
Weiland goes old Skool
Scott Weiland hung out with
Metal Skool on Monday at the Key Club. The singer hopped onstage and crooned the Guns N' Roses classic "It's So Easy" and the STP fave "Sex Type Thing." Tonight, Weiland is hosting a Flaunt magazine/Nefarious Jewelry bash at
BlackSteel in Hollywood....
King King owner
Mario Melendez says you gotta check out the cabaret show
"L'effleur des Sens," which hits his Hollywood club tonight (and April 13 and 20).... On Tuesday,
Larry Nicola premieres
Vodbox, a cool cooler in the middle of
Nic's Martini Lounge, his Beverly Hills restaurant and bar. While sampling vodka in the chilly showroom, guests are offered faux leopard-print coats. Burrr.... Barkeep
Bobby Green says he's moving his love shack a-go-go,
Lucky Tiki, from Mission Hills to NoHo in the near future.... Buncha celebrities crying in their slushies cuz the plug's been pulled on their private playground
Teddy's. We say, power to the people.
