melanei la, caThe play has so many significant moments, that it becomes insignificant as a work of art...nothing stands out. Players pontificate, then contradict themselves seconds later. The final statement, both onstage and in the playwright's notes in the program, left me baffled. A lot of pain and passion in search of a play. If the historical allusions are to Bush's WMD witch hunt, at least the guy never ordained a puff piece play be writ to save his history, and his memoir had few readers. November 15, 2009
Richard Burbank, CAI had seen "Equivocation" in Ashland, Oregon, and was anxious to see it again in Los Angeles, although I was worried that this production might not be as good as the one in Oregon. It was even better. However, I was shocked that at least a quarter of the audience left during the intermission. My wife thought it was probably because the audience was uncomfortable with the politics. I specutlated it was because the audience's ignorance of basic history and theater made it difficult for them to follow what the play was about. This is magnificent theater. I would love to know why these people left. Return to Equivocation details
