The production, acting, costumes, and overall projection of the play was absolutely amazing. It has been a very long time since I have found a play so thought provoking and mentally stimulating, but yet very funny to sit through. It would be a great benefit to know a little bit of a bio of Shakespeare and Christopher Marlow before you attend, however this is a play that you miss out on, if you don't attend.

This was well worth the drive out to Malibu. This entire production is extraordinary. Fantastic ensemble, virtuoso singing and dance, terrific art direction, crisp attack of a spritely show. Some staggering acting talent and just a lot of fun. Get to Pepperdine before this closes. The depth and quality of the program there is astonishing.

"Spring Awakening" is set in 1800's Europe, where boys and girls know very little of each other and their need to express themselves leads down some dark paths. Accompanied by a fantastic musical score, German oppression gives way to pounding rock, eliciting wild cheers from audiences. The seriousness of the dialogue contrasts wonderfully with the free-spirited and raucous musical score, when the actors sing, filled with desperate emotional intensity. Prepare yourself for some heavy heartaches (and adult language) and leave the young kids at home. The music definitely makes the show. Each song is another cry of help from youth and ties directly into the perplexity of censorship. You might want to sit down with your teenager and set them straight on a few things. Even in this modern era, they still may have a lot to learn. It's all in the title. And a MUST see. www.katewestreviews.com

It really depends on the cast! I saw it once and found it amazing with Teal Wicks and Erin Makey but saw it last night with different main characters and was deeply disappointed!

A new camp classic... Christopher Sands is a mix of Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwyck and Carol Burnett as Norma Desmond! Strong ensemble of actors round out this
farcical nod to 40's noir.

Unfortunately this is a mediocre staging of a mighty musical.
I went to the November 23rd Sunday matinee with hopes of experiencing, if not a riveting revitalization (ala Hair at the Met last year), at least a thouroughly enjoyable production that does justice to the famous creation of Mssrs. Robbins, Laurenents, Sondheim and Bernstein. What I saw was a poorly directed and unimpressively coreographed and orchestrated attempt marred by some spotty singing -- especially in the case of Clint Carter who portrayed a rather lackluster Tony and whose voice failed him in more than one musical number. The addition of distracting mics on the performers did not help.
I left at intermission, after the big rumble that finishes Act 1 garnered only polite applause from the audience.
