Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life
theoldglobe.org
Times rating:
Times review:
A mostly sure-footed musical biography (Sept. 26, 2005)
Readers' rating: Unrated Reader reviews: Write a review This new Broadway-bound musical biography appropriates some overfamiliar storytelling concepts to summarize Rivera's career, but nothing breaks the powerful connection between the audience and this battle-scarred, self-effacing, indomitably triumphant performer. And when she describes the choreographers who inspired her -- Jack Cole, Peter Gennaro, Jerome Robbins and Bob Fosse -- while a silhouetted line of dancers isolates the components of each dance style, the show reaches absolute glory.
