The Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center at California State University, Long Beach, is a 1,063-seat multi-use facility. Sporting state-of-the-art technical equipment, the Carpenter Center's stage was modeled after the New York State Theater of the Arts at Lincoln Center, home of the New York City Ballet. It accommodates large or small performing ensembles, film screenings, concerts, conferences and other special events.

Musical Theatre West has called the Carpenter Center home since 1997. Beginning as the Whittier Civic Light Opera in 1952, MTW has grown into one of Southern California's most respected regional musical theater companies.
