One evening more than four decades ago, a group of well-known working actors decided to get together in a Hollywood apartment on a regular basis and read plays to keep stretching their acting muscles. Their readings eventually resulted in the formation of Theatre West, one of the more venerable theaters in Los Angeles.

A genial lobby fronts their comfortable 175-seat space. Current executive director John Gallogly says the theater is fully accessible to the disabled. Free guarded parking is available across the street in the Hanna-Barbera parking lot.

Generally this Equity contract company stages original productions, many of which go on to larger venues.

A children's theater unit regularly produces shows for younger audiences.
