The second-largest facility at the Music Center is the Ahmanson Theatre, which opened in 1967 with Eugene O'Neill's unfinished drama, "More Stately Mansions."

With the closing of "The Phantom of the Opera" in 1993 after a record-breaking four-year run, the Ahmanson embarked on a $17-million renovation project. In addition to enhanced acoustics and improved sightlines, the new theater, which opened in 1995, provides for variable seating capacity from 1,600-2,000 seats.
