Pippin
eastwestplayers.org Readers' rating: Reader reviews: Write a review | Read more reviews This narcissistically navel-gazing musical about its eponymous hero's peripatetic search for meaning is so unalterably a part of the 1970s zeitgeist that it seems to defy revival, but director Tim Dang's anime version is purely fun, with enough eye candy to gloss over, if not negate, the material's inadequacies. Choreographers Blythe Matsui and Jason Tyler Chong supplant Bob Fosse's indelible original choreography with a dizzying blend of hip-hop, martial arts and high style.

Ryan Hollywood, CAWOW, WOW, WOW! I loved it. Last night was opening night and it was such an event. Stephan Schwartz was in the audience among other celebirties. Besides being star-strucked, Pippin himself is a huge star in my book. He was capitvating. During intermission, I over heard people talking that he jumped into the role over the weekend. WOW, WOW, WOW! The music was a trip, too. This Pippin rocked it out with new arrangements of the music. I wish there was a cast recording because Extraordinary in the 2nd act rocked! I wanted to see more dancing though. I love hiphop and I wanted more. Overall, it was a sexy show a great emotional core that drove the show. May 14, 2008
Jackie North Hollywood, CaI have seen Pippin before and never liked it until now! It's edgy and dark. It's the anti-Pippin. The guys are hot, especially Cesar who plays Lewis but the two that shined were Marcus as L. Player and Ethan as Pippin. Kudos to Ethan since he was still working through the show. I saw it on sunday and so I give me hat off to ya! Write a review | Read more reviews |
