AND DING YOUR OUT THOUSAND OAKS, CAWE DROVE ALL THE WAY TO NOHO BASDE ON THE 4 REVIEWS LISTED HERE!! SHAME ON YOU!! DO YOU FOLKS NOT GET OUT MUCH, WERE YOU PAID TO SUBMIT YOUR REVIEWS OR IS IT JUST THAT YOU HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER IN THE CAST OR PRODUCTION? THIS PRODUCTION LEFT US COLD, PROBABLY BECAUSE WE WENT IN WITH EXPECTATIONS FUELED BY YOUR REVIEWS!! IT COULD HAVE MADE SOME DIFFERENCE IF THERE HAD BEEN SOME CARE AS TO THE "LIGHTING OF THE SET" OR THE SET ITSELF.... CREATING A MOOD.... SHAME ON PRODUCTION FOR BEING SO CHEAP AND THOUGHTLESS. HAVING SAID ALL THAT THE LEAD ACTOR IS TO BE COMMENDED ON HIS PERFORMANCE!! April 30, 2008
Nancy Van Nuys, CADo not miss this one! It’s an imaginative, complex blend of drama, humor & eroticism, and it gives excellent actors an opportunity to show their wares (which the cast definitely does). Larry Eisenberg perforates his egomaniacal conductor with enough vulnerability to make the plot surprises believable, and Matt Ryan’s intent fascination his idol is real and engaging. You may not want to take any of the characters home to meet your mama, but the characters will all get to you the way music gets to all of them. April 16, 2008
John Woodland Hills, CATerrific show....Never seen anything quite like this; timed entirely to Wagner's gorgeous music. Performances terrific but occasionally had trouble hearing. Definitely worth seeing, a real roller-coaster. April 15, 2008
Ann Silverlake, CAWhoa...needed a cigarette after I saw this. Theater at it's best, didn't know these types of productions existed in LA., this performance is something one would see in New York and be blown away by! The music in the background takes on a life of it's own. The playwright, Terrence McNally, at his best in this little gem. Great writing, elegant acting. The lead really looks like Leonard Bernstein, and he nails the role. Who knew Lenny was such a wild guy?! Plus, it was an early night! The show started at 5:00 on Sat and we were at dinner later that night, very civilized! (But I think there's also a later one on Sundays, 7:00pm???). April 15, 2008
Yes, There's Good LA Theatre Los Angeles, CATony Award worthy performances in an equity waiver house in North Hollywood. Who knew? The opening night performance of P & L left me breathless. An electrifying performance by lead, Larry Eisenberg, kept me on the edge of my seat. The performances by the supporting roles were outstanding, enriching our insight into the life of a closeted homosexual, ego-maniac, genius conductor suggestive of Leonard Bernstein. Eisenberg's uncanny resemblence to the maestro himself doesn't hurt. The entire play takes place during a "live" concert of Wagner's Prelude & LIebestod. The music carries us through the entire drama. The 70 minute one-act production was tightly paced and economically staged allowing you to be completely caught up in the visual, emotional and, yes, erotic images drawn by playwright, Terrence McNally.
