Herb Los Angeles, CAThe Hayworth is a lovely place to see a play. When they produce one you should go, but while "High Ceilings" is onstage - stay home. Even if you usually find incest funny, this bad idea in two acts will prove you wrong. Adding casting insult to playwrighting injury, the author stars in her own square-wheeled vehicle. That was the first mistake in an evening chock full of ill-conceived notions. There’s some good dialogue and the rest of the cast is terrific, but who cares? Is it a comedy? A farce? Autobiographical therapy? Docu-drama about the fear of ladders? Wait ‘til the middle-aged bride in her ill-fitting wedding gown straddles Dad and tongue kisses him out of a coma. I threw up a little in my mouth as I typed that. Judging from the tiny audience of disbelieving hostages the night I was there - they may not be able to keep this dead bride running for long. One can only hope. October 9, 2009
Giselle Studio City, CAI was delighted by this wonderful play, which very elegantly balanced humor with the deeper, underlying dramatic themes. High Ceilings's sharp witty dialog, wonderful acting, beautiful set design & superb directing was a pleasure to experience! Return to High Ceilings details
