Still no sign of Love Hewitt

Still no sign of Jennifer Love Hewitt. Am told she'll be on the premesis at 4 p.m. to tell us about "Ghost Whisperer." In the meantime, please enjoy these young stars from the new CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother."

It's a show with a father telling his son and daughter how he met their mother, co-starring Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan as the actors you've heard of. It's set in the future, but told in flashback--oh, I don't want to ruin it for you. But apparently the show is a bit of a riddle, as many of the questions thrown at the executive producers had to do with who, exactly, turns out to be the mother of "How I Met Your Mother." The producers were coy, perhaps encouraged that the storytelling had piqued such interest and/or mystery. Not Rove-ian, but still. The lead actor, a Jimmy Fallon type, didn't even speak, until finally he said something about how the show takes the "visual vocabulary from film and brings it to the sitcom."

Remember Me?

 What is it?

The stars. The suits. The shrimp. Twice a year, TV reporters and critics from around the country come to Los Angeles to get a sneak peek at the new television shows and hear from the people who put them on the air. This summer, home base for the semi-annual convention, sponsored by the Television Critics Assn., is the Beverly Hilton, but parties are taking place around town. The Times' Paul Brownfield is there and weighing in with an online critic's notebook.
