THE EMMYS Live commentary from last night's Emmy Awards show September 18, 2005 Her Dress Ate the Speech NEW YORK S. Epatha Merkerson won for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie, for "Lackawanna Blues." Her speech fell down the front of her dress and she can't get it out! Here we have the first truly unrehearsed moment of the night. Charming and sweet. Somehow her great personality doesn't really come across on "Law & Order." Jon Stewart had a funny segment about the government's response to the hurricane. And then he presented Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series to "Desperate Housewives." In winning Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Mitchell Hurwitz pointed out that it's "Arrested Development's" second win for a show that "you people won't watch." Very good point. The season premiere is tomorrow it's not too late! This was an upset for "Desperate Housewives," which was supposed to win this category. This just in about Bucky Gunts: It's been pointed out to me that he won the same directing award three years ago, for the opening ceremonies of the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games in 2002. That's excellent news. Posted by Kate Aurthur at September 18, 2005 07:00 PM Comments Post a comment |
