The End

NEW YORK — Ellen announced the winner of Emmy Idol. Trump and Mullally won; Shatner and Frederica von Stade, you were robbed!

Then, there was a miscue with Ellen and she walked off the stage before introducing Hugh Jackman and Whoopi Goldberg.

His facial hair is just freaky.

Outstanding Drama: "Lost"! Ah, the new blood. I like that the writers are so aware of "Lost" frustration that they even mention it in the acceptance speech. Still, I'm sad for "Six Feet Under," which had its best season.

Outstanding Comedy: "Everybody Loves Raymond." Phil Rosenthal kept it very short.

And then that was it! How abrupt.

In summary:

  • Not enough Ellen.
  • There were surprises (Patricia Arquette and "Arrested Development" for Best Writing again) but they were surrounded by such boringness that they didn't seem surprising.
  • Ian McShane might never win for "Deadwood."
  • Emmy Idol was really, really strange.
