Once, the main pony rides serving the city of Los Angeles were at the corner of La Cienega and Beverly, along with a simple amusement park. The Beverly Center soon triumphed over mere amusement, so now if you want to stick your kid on the back of an animal, there's no place to go but Griffith Park. Just south of the zoo look for the water tower saying Southern Pacific. Plunk down your $1.50, and pick the speed of your pony: docile, slightly less docile, or even less docile but bigger. At nearby stables, rent horses by the hour and REALLY explore the park.Open every day but Monday at 10AM. Closes at 4PM. -- Michael Dare
