One of West Hollywood's hidden treasures, this modular family home ushered in a new era of original Los Angeles architecture. Rudolf M. Schindler, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, took his mentor's stark artistic sensibilities and made them livable.

Tour a Wright house and your admiration for the visuals might be overcome by your sympathy for whoever had to actually live in the place. But visit Schindler's magnificent family dwelling and your awe of the architecture will be overcome by a desire to move in.

The modular construction, with replaceable walls and outside fireplaces, was meant to be shared by several families. Now it's an art gallery devoted to architecture.

The house is open to the public from Wednesday through Sunday. Docent-led tours are available throughout the day on Saturdays and Sundays.

Behind the house sits the MAK Center for Art and Architecture bookstore. There are numerous displays, lectures and symposiums throughout the year, making the place a think tank for current issues in art and architecture.
